Power of Sound
Hearing is the most subtle sense
Even while sleeping, while all other senses are inactive, our hearing safeguards us.
Sound has the ability to communicate feelings powerfully. That’s why people gather in large groups to hear music played live in concerts.
Depending on the music, songs can cause people to dance, cry, think deeply, appreciate, reminisce or even to break windows.
The sound of friendship coming from one’s persons voice can establish a deep relationship. The sound of hatred can break one.
The sound that comes from our mouths carries intention. People are sentient beings meaning they are sensitive. Therefore, people can sense authenticity, genuineness and good-will or sneakiness, duplicity and commission-breath (aka there’s something in it for me that’s not being disclosed upfront).
On a deeper level, sound can synchronize with nature on different levels. By vibrating sounds we can align ourselves with material or spiritual frequencies.
For example, each chakra can be tapped into by vibrating its “seed mantra”.
When there is root chakra imbalances, chanting the seed mantra “Lam” (pronounced lum” can help balance an overactive, under-active or inactive root chakra.
By slow, methodic chanting and concentration on the sound of mantras, we can elevate our consciousness to a higher vibration like when we chant the mantra 🕉 Om (pronounced A-U-M /A as in A in awesome). This mantra address divinity as feminine, masculine and the unlimited infinitesimal corollaries in unity.
We should also be mindful of stressful sounds like the news cycle, gossip, fault-finding, etc. These are antithetical to the nature of the soul and disturb the mind.
Soothing, delicate, peaceful, cheerful, melodic, uplifting, pleasant and slow/sustained sounds are pacfying to Vata Dosha as are words of affirmation, reassurance and words that center us in the present moment.
Cooling sounds like soft music, sounds of flowing water or ocean waves, a fountain of water splashing and the sweet sounds of the harp and other mild instruments are pacifying to Pitta Dosha as are words spoken softly, sweetly and sharing gratitude.
Stimulating sounds like fiery music, complex music, music that inspires dancing, movement and exercise are kapha pacifying. Words that awaken, alert and rouse action, fear of complacency and vanquish laziness are kapha pacifying.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
